The Club supports Squib, Dinghy and Crusier racing. It supports sailing at other events and clubs, both within the lough and further afield.
Members wishing to crew on other members boats would be very welcome.
SQUIBS
The 19ft two person Squib has been in existence for over 40 years. The boats are constructed from fibreglass with a metal keel and because the construction and sails are tightly controlled the racing is very close and exciting.
The Club would particularly welcome new Squib sailors.
DINGHIES
The Club races Toppers, Lasers, Picos and Mirrors. QYC owns a laser 2000 and toppers, these are available for members to borrow (via the Junior Sailing Officer) and if 3 boats or more are out on the water, a club safety boat can be used, as long as the club log book is completed.
CRUISER RACING/CRUISING
In addition to the Cruiser Racing at the Club and in the Lough, the Club organises one or two Club cruises each year. Members without boats can usually find berths on the larger cruisers.
Dates and Cruise details will appear here and in the calendar.
CLUB BOATS
The Club owns a ‘Red Bay Workboat’ with a cabin. This diesel engined boat is used for Safety, as a Committee boat to start/finish races and as a tow boat. It is afloat at all times.
The Club also owns two Ribs (Rescue 1 and Rescue 2). These boats are used exclusively for safety duty and are launched each time they are required.
All Club boats carry VHF Radios and full safety gear including flares. Club Boats are managed by the Club Rescue Officer who also produces a rota for their use. This rota is published on the Club Calendar. Only qualified Club Members are allowed to use these boats. The Club runs Powerboat Courses to gain qualifications which cover use of the Club boats.
The Club also owns one and two person dinghies. These dinghies are used for training purposes.
REGULAR SAILING EVENTS
Our annual REGATTA is held in the middle of June and is a highlight of the year. Details of the Regatta Programmes are available at www.strangfordloughregattas.co.uk. As well as on this web site.
Visitors from outside Strangford Lough are very welcome at our Regatta and open events. Visitors' moorings are available - just ask.
The Quoile plays host to two of the Lough's longest-standing and best supported cruiser racing events, the SPRING SERIES which starts in April and runs over a weekend.
The Spring Series, which the Club has run for over 30 years, is the perfect excuse to get your boat into the water early and give your crew a vital pre-season workout! Good wind is likely, and any failures in winter maintenance become quickly apparent.
The club can provide moorings for the event, so check the Notice of Race on this website and come along!
The TWO DAY EVENT in August entails 2 races on Saturday and 1 race on Sunday. Racing is also provided for One Design Classes. A BBQ and live music will feature on the Saturday evening with a delicious Sunday morning breakfast provided by the social team. Complimentary pontoon berths available for this event.
